Health Care Access with Community Pharmacies
What is the policy issue being studied?
Since 2013, SB 493 has authorized California pharmacists to furnish nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) without a prescription. AB 1114, enacted in 2019, authorizes Medi-Cal plan payments to pharmacists for cessation services, but this has not been widely understood or implemented by pharmacists.
Who are the study partners?
Community Pharmacy Enhanced Services Network (CPESN) of California is part of a nationwide clinically integrated network of pharmacy providers.
What data are being generated?
The study examines barriers and facilitators for policy implementation with Medi-Cal managed care plans.
