Health Care Engagement on Flavored Tobacco
What is the policy issue being studied?
Effective December 2022, SB 793 bans the sale of most flavored tobacco products, providing an opportunity for people who use these products to quit. However, those who use menthol compared to non-menthol products may have more difficulty quitting. Additionally, local policy implementation may be affected by enforcement limitations or cannabis use among young people. Local health care providers can help educate about flavored tobacco’s impact on the community.
Who are the study partners?
Greater Sacramento Smoke and Tobacco-Free Coalition, California Youth Advocacy Network, UC Davis Health
What data are being generated?
Local data about tobacco use and policy implementation are generated to increase engagement with health care professionals in school, college, and community settings.
